Today I'm taking it easy. Yesterday I got alot done and tired myself out. Then went to the event last night, which was fun, but tiring. On my feet for 2 or more hours looking at quilts and visiting (I wore shoes I haven't worn in a while and my toes were numb when I got home). There was a good amount of people from our guild that went. So this morning I wake up and I'm very tired--did I say I was tired enough! I'm going to find me a good book or magazine and sit and read. Something I don't take enough time to do lately. I hope everyone has a great Friday.

I finished the quilting and all I have left to do is put on the binding (which I will be doing as soon as I'm off the computer). Supper smells so good in the crockpot. The only bad thing about using the crockpot is I'm hungry all day long because of the food smell in the house. But it sure beats cooking a meal later in the evening after a long day of quilting.

I sure feels good to get things accomplished on time. I am a big procrastinator. I guess that is why I have so many UFO's. I listed them last year on a piece of paper so I could scratch them off when finished. I thought this would help me to finish them sooner and it did. I did 10 of them just this year (my friend also helped and encouraged me to get them done) and 3 last year and I gave 2 of them away. My original list had 49 projects on it so it really feels good to mark off a finished project. My problem is I start a new project or someone will ask me to do a project for them and so my UFO's have to wait. I don't know if I will ever finish all of them but I sure hope so.

Today I have several things I want to get done (why am I still sitting at this computer?). I will get up soon and put supper in the crockpot. I am hopefully going to have time to load the home of the brave quilt in my frame and get it quilted. I also want to finish the crocheted rug that I started last week. I just need to tie off the end and wet it to spread out on the table and block it. Then I can start a new one for myself. Tonight we are going to the Arts Center downtown for a quilt exhibit. This is the first event in the celebration of the Marquis' de Lafayette 250th birthday celebrations. The quilt show this weekend "Quilts on the Teche" will be the end. I will be there Saturday to set up and Sunday to work the show with white gloves on. I will be a docent at the Cultural Heritage Center. I have from 12-2 in the afternoon free to see and enjoy the quilts.

My husband and I had a wonderful evening last night. We went to eat at Carrabba's. I love the Pollo Rosa Maria there. Of course, it is too much to eat all at once so I brought home leftovers for lunch today. We also stopped by the book store on the way home. I love being in the bookstore. It is quiet and there are chairs to sit and look through a book while deciding to buy it or not. Very relaxing for me.

Our wedding anniversary

October 3, 1981

Today marks our 26th year as man and wife. It has been wonderful being married to a wonderful man. It has not all been a bed of roses but that's what keeps life interesting, right? Really, I am happier today than I was 26 years ago. I'm a more confident, considerate and caring person and it has alot to do with my sweet husband. He is very understanding and never judgmental. He is my best friend. I can always talk to him (except in the middle of an argument HA!)

We met at T,G,&Y. It was a department store from many years ago and we both worked there. As a matter of fact, the guy I was dating at the time introduced us and got me the job at the store. It didn't take me long to figure out the guy I was dating was a jerk and broke it off with him. About a month after that a co-worker gave my husband a note I had written that said "I think your cute". (she took it out of the trashcan, boy am I glad she did).

He asked me to have lunch with him that day. We ate pizza at Pizza Hut. The date was May 5, 1981. I invited him over to my house for supper a week after we met so he could meet my folks. I told my Mom that I had met the man I would marry. She, of course, thought I was nuts (considering he was only the second guy I had dated). He asked me to marry him on our second date and we were married 5 months later. Hows that for whirlwind romance?

His parents were not too pleased about the fast engagement, they thought we should wait a year (I didn't mention how young we were, I was 16 and my husband was 18, of course I turned 17 a month before the marriage which made it ok, right?) but, we didn't want to wait. I had found someone that made me feel so incredibly loved and accepted for who I was.
(I still feel that way). So we planned the wedding with his parents blessing and we were married on October 3, 1981.

The wedding was simple. I hand wrote all the invitations on note cards I had bought (I regret that I didn't keep one to have today). My MIL made my dress and my only attendant's dress (my cousin was my Maid of Honor). MIL also did all the flowers (there were not many and you could not miss the BIG RED ROSES we used. I guess I thought, the bigger the less you could use,HA!). I kept those flowers for years (did I mention they were of the fake variety) until one day I got tired of dusting them and threw them out. For shame. We had cake and punch at the reception and my MIL also made those (did I mention my MIL was a seamstress and she liked to bake-- still does!) My husband and I paid for the whole thing and I still have all the receipts (packed away somewhere).

I have had a better life than I ever imagined I would have because of this man. My man.

My how we have changed!

Top finished!

Just thought I'd take a little time and show my progress. I'm all done with the top. Yeah! It feels good. It went together really easy. A lot of long seams but that was OK. Now I need to cut out my backing. They said to use muslin and I bought some 108"wide so it should be easy to cut out. I will hopefully load it on my frame Thursday and get it quilted. I can't wait until it is all done. I think it looks pretty good. (even with the non-civil war repo's.)

Today I am getting some sewing done. I cut out the sashing and borders for the home of the brave quilt and I will be sewing the sashing strips on today. The picture is of the blocks and side borders with some of the sashing up on my design board. This quilt is supposed to be made with civil war reproductions but as usual some people can't follow directions and used what they thought looked like reproductions. From a distance it is OK but, it is sad that these quilts are going to families that have lost a loved one and the people that participated in this project can't get it right for them. Just sad. I don't know why people do that, participate but don't follow the rules. (I know because for a year I was in charge of the lotto blocks for our guild and you never knew what kind of blocks you would get even though you gave specific instruction. Enough whining about that. The quilt will over all be beautiful in the end.

The other picture is what is now hanging in my living room in place of the wool quilt. I just could not stand to look at that bare wall. This is an example of the quilts I usually make. Lots of fabric and very scrappy. I usually don't have to worry about matching things up that way --it's easier--especially if you use a neutral background. OH-OH, I may have a hard time hanging the wool quilt back up. I really like looking at all the fabric...what's a girl to do?

This is wool quilt that I made last year. It hangs in my living room (except right now because it will be hanging in the "Quilts on the Teche" quilt show that I mentioned previously). This quilt took me a whole year to make. I worked on it mainly at our "woolies" group meetings. My friend was also making one. We fell in love with this quilt that another friend of ours was making and decided to make one. All three quilts are similar but not exactly alike. I love looking at all the different things in this quilt. It was a labor of love and it has many things about my life in it, like the crawfish and crawfish net. Here are a couple of close ups.

Today I am dragging my feet on a project I need to get going on. Just don't feel like starting. It is so much easier to sit at the computer and play. I have a "woolies" meeting here tonight and am all done with the housecleaning and making the refreshments. This is what I made. It is an Angel Food cake with a coolwhip frosting (the coolwhip has a dry packet of lemon pudding mixed in and a little bit of lemon filling mixed in) I cut it in three layers and spread the coolwhip then put some lemon filling on top, put on the next layer and repeat all the way to the top. Spread the rest of the coolwhip all around and put the rest of the lemon filling on top and let drip down sides. It is lite and yummy.
