Away for the weekend!

We are about to leave. My husband surprised me for my birthday with a weekend get away for rest and relaxation. Which I wanted all summer. We are not going far but that doesn't matter. We start school next week. I home school my 14yr. old son. This will be our 5th year homeschooling and his 9th grade yr. It will be a little different for us this yr. because the courses are getting harder and more involved. Like Algebra 1 (I was never very good in Algebra), I had to get a good program that would explain things to him that I could not. We love to home school but it can be challenging at times.

I got all the redwork blocks squared up so next week I will put them up on the design wall and take a picture. Bye for now...

Squaring up Blocks...

This is what I was working on today. Squaring up 78-- 6-1/2 inch quilt blocks for my quilt group, for a fund raiser we have once a year for our guild. It is not one of my favorite things to do in quilting but, it is worth it in the end because when we sew it all together it fits good. These are redwork blocks of Hawaiian appliqué designs. They will be put together with some Hawaiian fabric. It is suppose to be all red and white but some of the members what to add a little black. We will try it and see how it looks, then decide.

The second picture shows a tip I like to use when squaring up blocks (I don't remember where I got this tip from but it is a good one). I use a dry erase marker to mark on the ruler, on the line or lines, I need to use to square. I center my design in the middle of my marks and trim away the fabric. After I am finished I wipe off the marks with a paper towel. Easy! (Just remember- Don't touch the marks while on the ruler or they will rub off).

I'm leaving tomorrow for the weekend. When I get back, maybe I will have enough blocks squared up to lay out and take a picture to show you.

Quilt til your arm falls off...

First Post!

I have been wanting to do this for quite some time but never got around to it. You will have to be patient with me as I learn all this stuff and get familiar with it. I'm a quilter (obviously) and have been reading other blogs for a while. I get so inspired by what I see out there. I hope I can be an inspiration for others as well. As I learn more then I will add more to my blog. Right now I'm not sure how to do anything. But I will learn.
